The partnership was discussed during a government delegation visit to AWS’s Nairobi office. The meeting was led by Cabinet Secretary for ICT and the Digital Economy William Kabogo Gitau and Principal Secretary for ICT and Digital Economy John Kipchumba Tanui.

Government officials met with Robin Njiru, Public Sector Lead for Sub-Saharan Africa, and the AWS Nairobi team. They discussed how technology partnerships can support Kenya’s digital transformation. Workforce development emerged as a key priority during these talks.
AWS stated its skills initiatives are already creating pathways into technology careers for Kenyan youth. Through the AWS re/Start programme, more than 3,000 young Kenyans have been certified and placed in employment since 2021. The programme reports a placement rate of 45%.
AWS Academy is also active in more than 20 tertiary institutions across the country. It provides students with access to cloud computing training and industry-relevant skills.
Expanding Cloud and AI Training Initiatives
The company has additionally committed to training more than 10,000 university and TVET students each year through its wider digital-skills programmes. For Kenya, the focus is increasingly shifting from simply expanding access to technology toward building a workforce capable of creating, deploying, and supporting digital products.
