Verto and Visa Launch Multi-Currency Corporate Cards

Verto and Visa have partnered to launch multi-currency corporate cards for African businesses, offering direct access to 11 major currencies and 160+ others. This new financial tool helps companies streamline international transactions.

The Verto Card connects directly to customers’ Verto wallets. It allows businesses to pay from existing currency balances without manually moving funds between wallets before each transaction.

The card provides direct access to 11 currencies and access to more than 160 additional currencies through Visa’s global payment network. Verto says there are zero FX markups on eligible transactions in 10 major currencies.

The launch is aimed at businesses that regularly pay international suppliers, manage software subscriptions, run digital advertising campaigns or cover operating expenses across different markets.

Benefits of Multi-Currency Corporate Cards

The card supports spending in US dollars, euros, Japanese yen, British pounds, Swiss francs, Canadian dollars, Australian dollars, New Zealand dollars, Norwegian kroner and Swedish kroner, alongside the broader multi-currency framework offered through Verto.

Verto said the card is designed to address some of the friction African businesses face when making international payments. This includes common issues like additional FX costs, rejected transactions and corporate cards tied to a single settlement currency.

The card can be used at more than 150 million merchants worldwide that accept Visa. This gives businesses reliable access to international suppliers and services through a single payment instrument.

Upgrade

For African SMEs, importers, technology companies and digital businesses, the model means companies can use funds already held in their Verto wallets. They can avoid repeatedly converting currencies before making payments.

Streamlined Spending and Future Growth

The Verto Card also includes controls designed to help businesses manage employee and operational spending. Companies can set spending limits and manage card access through Verto’s platform, while transactions use Visa Secure for additional authentication.

The company is also developing additional card capabilities, including mobile wallet integration and a Cards-as-a-Service offering through its Atlas infrastructure. The latter would allow fintechs and banks to embed card issuance into their own products through a white-label model.

For Visa, the partnership extends its commercial payments network to a fintech product focused on businesses managing international expenses. “Managing multiple currencies should not be a barrier to growth for businesses looking to scale internationally,” said Shahebaz Khan, SVP and Head of Commercial & Money Movement at Visa.

Why It Matters to African Startups

For African startups selling or buying across borders, payment infrastructure can become a hidden operational cost as businesses expand.

Verto’s approach brings foreign-currency balances, corporate spending and international card acceptance into the same platform. That could be particularly relevant for startups paying for cloud services, software, advertising, travel or overseas suppliers, where repeated currency conversions can add friction to everyday operations.

More broadly, the launch reflects a shift in African fintech from simply moving money across borders to giving businesses more tools to hold, manage and spend multiple currencies from a single financial infrastructure layer.
