Elon Musk's satellite internet service, Starlink, has officially launched in Yemen, marking the company's first commercial rollout in the Middle East and extending satellite broadband access to one of the world's most connectivity-challenged countries.
Starlink announced its arrival in a post on X, the social media platform also owned by Musk, saying simply: "Starlink is now available in Yemen!"
The launch represents another step in Starlink's global expansion as the company continues to deploy satellite internet services in regions where traditional telecommunications infrastructure is limited, unreliable or difficult to build.
Operated by SpaceX, Starlink uses a constellation of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites to deliver high-speed internet with lower latency than conventional satellite services. Users access the network through a Starlink kit comprising a satellite dish and Wi-Fi router, enabling broadband connectivity without relying on fibre-optic cables or mobile towers.
In Yemen, where years of conflict have severely affected telecommunications infrastructure in many areas, satellite internet has the potential to improve access to digital services for businesses, humanitarian organisations and individuals in underserved communities.

According to Starlink's coverage map at the time of the launch, the service was available across much of Yemen, including government-controlled territories, the Houthi-controlled capital of Sanaa and large sections of the Red Sea coastline.
The rollout makes Yemen the first country in the Middle East to gain official access to Starlink's satellite broadband network, highlighting the company's continued focus on expanding into markets with limited internet infrastructure.
Beyond consumer connectivity, Starlink has increasingly been deployed in disaster zones, conflict areas and remote locations where terrestrial communications networks are unavailable or have been disrupted. The service has also become an important connectivity option for maritime operators, aviation, enterprises and governments seeking resilient internet access.
The expansion into Yemen comes as demand for satellite broadband continues to grow globally, driven by the need to connect rural communities and provide reliable internet in regions where conventional network deployment remains economically or logistically challenging.
