Dubai-based Popcorn AI Studio has officially raised $1M in pre-seed funding to expand its cutting-edge AI filmmaking platform, including its specialized Arabic lip-sync tools and regional presence.
The round was led by Emirati entrepreneur and investor Mohammed Bin Bouta Alharsoosi. Founded in 2026 by Egyptian entrepreneurs Shady Essam and Mohamed Hedar, the startup plans to use the capital to grow its user base across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt.

Advancing the AI Filmmaking Platform
Popcorn AI Studio is building a platform that combines several stages of filmmaking into one workflow. It allows creators to develop concepts, create characters, generate scenes, produce voiceovers, and handle post-production seamlessly.
The approach targets filmmakers, content creators, advertising agencies, and brands. These groups would otherwise need to move between multiple tools to produce high-quality video content.
Localization and Arabic Language Support
Arabic-language production is a key part of its offering. The platform supports Arabic lip-sync and regional dialects to ensure content reflects the cultural context of its intended audiences.

The new capital will go toward developing the startup's proprietary AI technology. The team aims to expand its creative tools and solidify its presence across the MENA region.
Reducing Production Barriers
The company is targeting creators and businesses that face the cost and technical demands of conventional production. By bringing multiple stages together, Popcorn aims to make cinematic content creation more accessible.
Co-founder and CEO Shady Essam emphasized that the company wants to reduce barriers to filmmaking rather than replace filmmakers. Generative AI is creating new options for producing video, yet many global tools struggle with regional dialects and specific lip movements.
Market Potential and Future Growth
Popcorn’s focus on Arabic language support gives it a distinct advantage in the MENA market. Brands and agencies require content that speaks naturally to diverse audiences.
If the platform succeeds in combining video generation with convincing synchronization, it could significantly simplify localized campaign production. The company has also announced an AI filmmaking competition associated with the El Gouna Film Festival, featuring a $70,000 prize pool.
The next test will be whether Popcorn can turn its integrated workflow into a product that creators adopt consistently. This will be critical for gaining a foothold in the increasingly competitive AI video production market.
