Saudi fintech PayTabs is set to finalize a major PayTabs Amazon acquisition, taking over Amazon Payment Services’ MENA operations in a $100M+ deal that creates a payments platform processing $40B annually.

The deal, which both companies have approved, would bring Amazon Payment Services’ MENA operations under PayTabs. This creates a combined payments platform expected to process more than $40 billion (SAR 150 billion) in annual payment volume.

The transaction would significantly increase PayTabs’ scale across the region. It combines its existing banking connectivity, regulatory licenses, and payment infrastructure with Amazon’s established payments operations.

Understanding the PayTabs Amazon Acquisition

PayTabs has built its business around payment processing, banking connectivity, regulatory coverage, and AI-driven infrastructure. The acquisition would add Amazon Payment Services’ regional operations to that existing network.

This gives PayTabs a substantially larger payments infrastructure footprint across MENA. The combined platform is expected to provide end-to-end capabilities spanning payment processing, automated switching, and payouts.

For merchants and businesses, the companies expect the integration to support faster onboarding and stronger local compliance. They aim to minimize disruption to existing customers during this transition.

Scale in the MENA Payments Market

The combined business is expected to process more than $40 billion, or SAR 150 billion, in payments annually. That scale would strengthen PayTabs’ position in a MENA payments market where merchants and financial institutions operate across multiple regulatory and banking environments.

Bringing the two operations together could also give businesses access to a broader payments infrastructure stack through a single regional provider. The acquisition would mark a major expansion for PayTabs as it moves from building its own regional infrastructure to integrating another established payments operation into its network.

For Amazon Payment Services, the transaction would transfer its MENA payments business to a regional provider. It potentially gives its existing operations a broader local footprint under PayTabs.

Why It Matters to MENA

The PayTabs Amazon acquisition could reshape the competitive landscape for payments infrastructure across MENA. A combined platform processing more than SAR 150 billion annually would give PayTabs significant scale and deepen the concentration of payments infrastructure among major regional providers.

For merchants, the potential benefits include broader regional coverage, streamlined onboarding, and localised compliance through a single platform. For PayTabs, the acquisition provides a faster route to regional scale and strengthens its position as a Saudi-based payments infrastructure company.

The next major step will be integrating Amazon Payment Services’ regional operations into PayTabs while maintaining continuity for existing customers. The combined business will also be closely watched as it moves toward its projected SAR 150 billion in annual payment volume and seeks to translate that scale into greater market share across MENA.
