The new Ooredoo Qatar 5G+ network is officially live, providing users with a major connectivity upgrade. This advanced network promises speeds up to 1.6Gbps, greater capacity, and lower latency for both consumers and businesses.
Announced on 15 October by CEO Sheikh Ali bin Jabor bin Mohammad Al Thani, the network builds on 5G Standalone and 5G Advanced technology. It marks a significant milestone in regional telecommunications infrastructure.

The rollout is currently limited to selected locations, including most urban areas of Doha and the Sealine area. Access is available through eligible Data SIM+ plans and supported Netgear Nighthawk M7 Pro devices. Coverage and device compatibility are expected to expand over time.
Understanding the Benefits of Ooredoo Qatar 5G+
Ooredoo says the upgraded network can support activities such as high-quality video streaming, mobile gaming, and video calls. It is designed to accommodate more connected devices in busy locations simultaneously.
The lower latency is also relevant to applications that need rapid responses, including real-time equipment monitoring and automated processes. Note that actual speeds will depend on coverage, device capability, location, and network conditions.

Business Applications and Infrastructure
Beyond consumer connectivity, Ooredoo is positioning 5G+ as infrastructure for more demanding business applications. The network supports capabilities such as network slicing, which allows connectivity to be tailored to specific applications.
It can also work alongside edge computing to support services requiring rapid responses. Expanded Internet of Things capabilities could help businesses connect industrial sensors, asset trackers, and utility meters.
These applications support automated operations, real-time monitoring, and future smart-city services. For enterprises, the opportunity lies in using more responsive connectivity to improve operational visibility and support applications that depend on consistent network performance.
Strategic Growth and Future Rollout
The launch builds on Ooredoo Qatar’s earlier investments in 5G Standalone and forms part of its wider strategy to support Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Digital Agenda 2030.
For Ooredoo, the next phase is about extending the capabilities of its network beyond faster mobile broadband to support more specialised business and industrial requirements. The immediate priority remains expanding coverage and device compatibility beyond the initial rollout areas.
Ooredoo says 5G+ access is enabled automatically for eligible customers using supported devices within covered locations, with no additional activation fee. The company has not announced a nationwide availability date. As coverage expands, the key measure will be how widely consumers can access the higher speeds and whether businesses adopt these advanced capabilities for practical applications like automation and AI.
