Appointing the New Flutterwave Global CFO
The African payments company has appointed Morounke Olufemi as its new Global Chief Financial Officer, replacing Mitesh Popat, who stepped down to co-found a new venture. Flutterwave announced the transition on September 22, 2026.
Olufemi previously served as Flutterwave’s CFO for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), covering more than 30 countries. She joined the company in June 2025 and worked alongside Popat on its financial strategy before taking over the global role.
Olufemi brings more than 24 years of experience across finance, strategy and banking.
Background and Strategic Transition
Before joining Flutterwave, she was Group Chief Financial Officer at Access Holdings. During her tenure, she helped raise $300 million in Additional Tier 1 capital in 2023.

She also led a rights issuance program in 2024 to support bank recapitalization and spearheaded M&A transactions in Nigeria's pensions sector.
Her move to the global position gives Flutterwave a finance leader who already knows the company’s operations and international footprint, rather than bringing in an external successor.
“As Flutterwave enters the next phase of its sustainable growth, I am excited to announce Morounke as our new Global CFO,” said Olugbenga “GB” Agboola, Founder and CEO of Flutterwave.
Financial Goals and Continuity
According to Olufemi, the company’s financial priorities will remain focused on capital discipline, margin growth and sustainable profitability. She also pointed to Flutterwave’s broader push into financial infrastructure, including multi-currency liquidity and stablecoin settlement for global finance teams.
The transition comes as Flutterwave continues to expand beyond its original payments infrastructure. In June, the company announced a strategic investment from Ripple as part of its Series E round and said the partnership would support its broader financial infrastructure strategy.
Flutterwave has also continued expanding its financial services and cross-border payment capabilities across Africa and international markets.
For Popat, the move marks the end of his tenure as the company's financial lead after he joined in 2024 from Citi. For the business, the more immediate story is continuity: its finance leadership is changing, but the company says its capital allocation priorities and long-term financial goals remain unchanged.
